A Meet on the Western Maryland

While living in Maryland, and later between Army assignments, I would visit the
countryside and watch trains. One of my favorite haunts was along the Western Maryland
Railway west of Westminster, MD, all the way to Hagerstown. Primarily farming country, the
scenery was always enveloping, and when punctuated by passing trains, it took on another dimension.
We are way out in the country and have come upon a train of empties waiting in the hole for
westbound loads to pass. It is in the transition period when the Western Maryland adopted
their red, white and black paint scheme that was loved by some, detested by others.
Seeing both schemes on the line was typical.
