Yes, the Pennsy did paint five of their GG1 electric locomotives in Pennsy red for service on their Congressional
Limited trains, but these few red G's eventually wound up being mixed with the rest of the passenger locomotive
fleet and drew assignments with the rest of their brethren. But actually seeing one on the Pennsy was rare, as their
number was small compared to the large fleet of dark green G's. Here we see one of rare red GG1s on a Pennsy train
serving the Jersey Shore. The fact that a red G drew the assignment this day would have surprised the occasional train
watcher with a much discussed, but elusive sight. As impressive as the locomotive was, so was the conductor, known
to all as Big Vinnie, who could whisper louder than a train's horn, and with him sounding the "All aboard!" and
giving the highball, the passengers and the entire town knew Big Vinnie's train was departing the station.
