Before I went off to join the Army, one of my favorite places to visit was Rockville Tower, just north of Harrisburg, on the Pennsylvania Railroad. It was a
busy spot for railroad traffic, with trains from four directions passing through. Nearly every class of locomotive the Pennsy rostered could be seen on these
tracks, and it was the constant variety of different locomotives and trains that made this one of the quintessential hot spots for appreciating the American
railroad scene.
