When I moved east and became reacquainted with the railroads in this area, I began a series of paintings,
especially of the Chesapeake & Ohio, with a variety of subjects and locations. I used to watch these magnificently
painted C&O E8s in Washington, DC, and Alexandria, Virginia, and was struck by the attractive combination of colors
and layout on these locomotives. Usually kept clean, these colorful locomotives stood out from their neighboring
engines parked at Washington's Ivy City engine facility, most of which sported color schemes that used yellow
primarily for narrow striping and lettering.
