Study for Climbing Afton Mountain
by Andrew Harmantas

Painting trains in their environment means traveling to spots and noting the surroundings so that any painting that
results will include those signature scenic elements that "nail it." I drove up to the Blue Ridge Mountains and
walked around the town of Afton, Virginia, just below the summit. The Chesapeake & Ohio line from Charlottesville
winds up the mountain side and goes into Afton Tunnel just to the west of here. I've done several paintings of
trains at this location. This is one of the earlier works, in which I wanted to capture the atmosphere of the Blue
Ridge. This is the C&O's George Washington, moving upgrade.
Price: $325 (includes US shipping)
