San Bernardino, California, is one of the large rail centers serving the Los Angeles region, and is the launching
point for trains assaulting the steep Cajon Pass. As railroaders do, their jargon of slightly modifying, or
abbreviating place names resulted in San Bernardino being called "San Berdoo." To those who worked trains on the
Union Pacific and Santa Fe railroads, San Berdoo was a place to begin and end long runs, and with the high mountain
range looming to the east, trains are assigned multiple units for the power needed, as is painted here, as two C30-7s
lead other locomotives revving up to get a heavy train underway.
