Grain Trains
by Andrew Harmantas
Oil on Masonite Panel
Original Painting Image size 11¼" x 23" Framed size 12¼" x 24"
Oklahoma has more than one harvest of wheat in a good year. Whenever the grain comes to the elevators, there is a mad dash to marshal railroad grain cars to
carry the wheat off to market, and an ensuing rash of special train movements to make that happen. This painting began on a whim, as I tried to capture the
dry and dusty atmosphere of the Oklahoma prairie at a typical small town elevator, often called a "Prairie Skyscraper," as they usually dwarfed most
surrounding buildings. There is one car in the painting that is not for shipping grain the Western Maryland box car, which is carrying a load of
ammunition from an arsenal back in Pennsylvania to the Artillery School at Fort Sill.
Price: $600 (includes US shipping)
