This is a painting I did for the cover of Geoff Doughty's book on New Haven Passenger trains, New Haven Railroad in the Streamline Era.
We discussed all the possible locations and vantage points we might use, and eventually settled on this classic view
looking down on the curve just outside Boston's South Station. I rode behind New Haven Alco PAs numerous times, so I
was only too happy to call on my recollections. These PA locomotives were the backbone of power for New Haven
passenger trains, and their graceful and dignified lines make them immediately recognizable.
