Letting 'er Run
by Andrew Harmantas

Oil on linen canvas on birch plywood
Original Painting     Image size 14" x 24" (unframed)

Out on the western portion of the Pennsylvania Railroad, the track is straight and level,
so trains out there could really get going. That's how it was when I was young. When we
would travel in the family car on a road paralleling the Pennsy mainline in Indiana, I would
watch as a Pennsy M1 class 4-8-2 overtook us as if we were standing still. I asked my Dad
how fast we were going, and he said "60." From the looks of things, the crew was leaning
forward, urging on their steed, as if they were a crew on a racing machine. The pounding
exhaust was so rapid that it blurred into a steady roar. I had seen Pennsy M1's "back
East," but had never seen one go this fast.

Price: $950 (includes US shipping)
