Next to the X in Texas

Trying to distill Texas in all its guises into a single image is a nearly impossible task, but this just might do it. After spending a decade searching out
trains to watch, and visiting countless small towns, I hardly made a dent in the list of places I wanted to see in Texas. This scene is another small town
served by a railroad line, with a main street, some businesses, a bank, and a bar. It could be anywhere in Texas or Oklahoma, on a day when the sun burns
through the haze, portending triple-digit temperatures. The ol' boys enjoying their respite in front of the bar are accustomed to whatever the weather brings,
but for now, they are taking in the passing Santa Fe passenger train, accelerating out of town.
