Rock in the Field
This open edition, 10¼" x 20" print by noted aviation and railroad artist William Gardoski is printed on 80 lb acid free archival matte finish paper and depicts the waning days of Rock Island passenger service in Iowa. Shown is a short passenger consist powered by a pair of aging and decrepit E8s traveling through corn and wheat fields near Grinnell. It's a hot, dry, mid-July afternoon during the late 1970s, and the clouds are just beginning to look like they might bring some much needed rain for the parched crops. Regrettably they won't provide similar relief for the Rock's dwindling passenger business, which will soon dry up completely and disappear forever. The engines will soon be put out to pasture too, but on this day that spot between a rock and a hard place has turned out to be an idyllic field.
Print is shipped rolled in a strong cardboard tube. When ordered at the same time, additional prints by Gardoski are shipped at no extra charge.
