As a long time fan of the Southern Pacific, I was drawn to places along its lines when passing through the West
Coast. When on leave from the Army, I occasionally rode the Cascade from Portland to Oakland, and marveled at
the scenery passing by my window. Later, I took leave and made auto trips up into the Cascades to see places I would
later paint. This is one of many SP paintings I've done, and it was subsequently published on the cover of
Mainline Modeler magazine.
